Human Resources Generalist-Payroll Focus

We currently have an opportunity available for Human Resources Generalist-Payroll Focus. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, this position is responsible for performing the duties and responsibili-ties which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator with the processing of payroll on a semi-monthly basis. Payroll duties may include but are not limited to: entering payroll data, checking the payroll before transmission, processing manual cheques, ROE’s, assisting with monthly reports, year-end processing, attendance management, and payroll filing. Input expenses into PayWorks for payment.
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable for additional cheques, as required (advances, prepayments).
- Development, implementation and maintain corporate policies, procedures and best practices
- Provide guidance and support to management, supervisors and employees on employee relation issues
- Work with departments to establish recruiting and training programs
- Developing effective and innovative policies around human resources issues including compensation, retention, succession planning, and employee development
- Compiling salary survey data, including job analysis, job descriptions, position and salary grading and approval procedures
- Coordinating the annual salary review process
- Participate in new employee on-boarding, developing new policies and practices as appropriate. Ensure required resources are available to new employees on their start date.
- Communications about company-wide recognition programs and team-building initiatives
- Educate management and employees around issues such as employment standards, human rights, equity, and privacy legislation
- Provide employees with letters of verification of employment, upon request.
- Deliver the employee on-boarding sessions in the absence/unavailability of the HR Recruiter/Administrator and assist with the preparation of the employee on-boarding packages and PowerPoint presentation updates.
- Maintain along with the HR Recruiter/Administrator Sunwest’s on-line application database system daily and advise the Manager, HR of any issues that arise within the system.
- Preparation of a variety of employee correspondence.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee personnel files in conjunction with all other department members.
- Other related and additional duties as required.
The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications and competen-cies. In addition personality profiling will be required of all candidates granted an interview for this position.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
- Post secondary education in a human resources related field is a must, although a combination of education and experience may be considered
- Payroll experience and/or PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner)
- Minimum 2 years Payroll experience is required.
- Prior Payroll and HRIS experience/knowledge with Payworks would be an asset/or another similar integrated HRIS system.
- Minimum 2 years HR generalist experience is required.
- Intermediate-advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook is essential.
- Multi-provincial Payroll & HR experience is an asset.
- Prior experience dealing with Federal legislation (Canada Labour Code) is considered an asset.
- High regard for confidentiality and discretion with sensitivity to customer issues and understanding the importance of diplomacy.
- Superior level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
