Sunwest Aviation Adds King Air 350 and Gulfstream G150

October 13, 2020

Sunwest Aviation Ltd. is pleased to announce the addition of two aircraft, a King Air 350 and a Gulfstream G150 business jet, to the company’s fleet. The aircraft are both approved for charter and bring Sunwest’s fleet to a total of thirty-one aircraft at the time of this news release.

The newly added King Air 350 turboprop has received charter approval and can transport up to nine passengers in pressurized cabin comfort. The aircraft will fly out of Calgary, Alberta and Winnipeg, Manitoba. “The King Air is perfect for shorter trips, accessing shorter runways, and travelling to locations that may have reduced commercial air transportation as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Ian Darnley, Director of Business Development at Sunwest Aviation.

Sunwest has also added its second Gulfstream G150 aircraft to its charter fleet. The seven passenger business jet, based in Calgary, Alberta, is able to fly missions nonstop throughout North America.  Mr. Darnley added, “The G150 is a great addition to our fleet, especially with increased interest in aircraft charter in recent months. Businesses and families that need to travel with extra precautions or on a very specific schedule can charter the G150 and fly direct to almost any destination in North America.”

These additions come at a time when the aviation industry has been struggling to manage the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Mr. Darnley, the interest in private aviation and aircraft charter has increased with private aviation as an attractive alternative to commercial airline travel; “corporations and individuals are looking at aircraft charter and aircraft ownership as a way of travelling without interruptions or flight cancellations, and without coming into contact with hundreds of people.”

Sunwest Aviation is an aircraft charter, aircraft management, air ambulance, and fixed base operator based out of Calgary, Alberta. The company has been operating since 1986 and is one a few Canadian operators to have earned both the ARGUS Platinum and IS-BAO Stage III charter certifications.
