Director of Safety
Joined Our Company: 1996 as a Contractor with Home Aviation and permanently as an employee in 1999 when Home Aviation merged with Sunwest Aviation.
Current role with the Company: As Director of Safety, Casey reports to the CEO and is responsible for the company Safety Management System (SMS). Some of the responsibilities include identifying hazards and carrying out risk management analysis, investigating and identifying causes of hazards, incidents, etc. under SMS, maintaining the Company Emergency Response Manual, distributing safety information to Company personnel and Safety Assurance management and oversight of SMS through audit processes. Casey is also a Transport Canada designated "Ministers Delegate - Maintenance" providing him the authority to sign Certificates of Airworthiness for aircraft imported into Canada.
With 47 years experience in Aviation. Casey started in aviation as a part time ramp attendant and mechanics helper while in high school, received his private pilot's license when he was 18 and graduated from the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer program at SAIT in 1968, receiving his AME license in 1970. After working for a year in Regina, Casey took a position as the Chief Engineer of Interprovincial Airways in Lloydminster, AB, where he remained for 13 years. In 1985 Casey moved to Calgary to satisfy a desire to work on corporate aircraft. He worked on a variety of turbine powered aircraft including Cessna Citations, Beech King Airs, Hawker and Fairchild Metros. In 1987 he took a position with Excalibur Aviation that did contract work on an oil company's 5 aircraft including a Gulfstream GII and a Lear 25, as well as numerous other corporate and private aircraft. In 1994 Casey bought the company and operated it for 5 years during which time he started doing contract work for Home Aviation. In 1999 when Home Aviation merged with Sunwest International he accepted a full time position with the new company as Maintenance Project Manager. In 2001 Casey accepted the position as Maintenance Quality Assurance Manager with Sunwest in 2005 he became the Director of Safety. In 2008 Casey received a diploma in Aviation Safety and Security from the University of Southern California.
